OUR EXPERTS

Paul Torpey
Director of Product Management, Derwent Innovation
Clarivate Analytics


Paul has been with the Clarivate Analytics business for more than 15 years and has held several roles across the organization. In his current role as Director of Product Management, Paul is directly responsible for managing the product life cycle for Derwent Innovation, including the product roadmap. Prior to joining the Derwent team in 2010, Paul spent a significant amount of time in the Scientific and Academic Research business of Clarivate Analytics supporting platforms such as the Web of Science.

In his spare time Paul is involved with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is the team captain for the Clarivate Analytics Philadelphia cycling team that participates in fund raising activities for MS research and patient care.



Bob Stembridge
Marketing Communications Manager

Based in London, UK, Bob Stembridge is responsible for IP analytics marketing projects and for liaison with customer user groups for Clarivate Analytics. He joined Derwent (one of the founding components of Clarivate Analytics) in 1980 and has held various roles in editorial, marketing, sales and product development over the years.  Leaving in 1988 for interludes working as Senior Information Analyst specialising in patent analytics at British Petroleum and European Sales Liaison with Dialog, he returned to Clarivate in 1996. His current responsibilities include authoring specialist reports and white papers based on IP analysis and providing media background and commentary.

Bob graduated from University of Sussex, UK with an Honours degree in Chemistry. He belongs to several professional bodies (ACS, CILIP and PIUG) and serves as Treasurer of CSA Trust and is immediate past-Chair of PATMG. He has spoken at numerous conferences and symposia over many years.



Thomas Lunde, MBA, Esq.

Thomas is a registered US patent attorney and is admitted to practice law in New York and Minnesota. Prior to joining the company in 2005, Thomas handled patent prosecution and litigation matters in private practice for an IP specialist law firm and, prior to attending law school, he worked in Silicon Valley in a variety of technical roles. He attended the University of Iowa, earning double degrees in Computer Science and Political Science, and the Cardozo School of Law. Thomas also holds an MBA degree in Finance

Larry Mulcahy, Ph.D.

Larry received his Ph.D. from Brown University in Molecular & Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. He spent several years in academic drug discovery and basic research followed by work in the private sector.  Larry is an expert in patent search and analysis and has taught patent landscaping courses at two law schools and a masters course for automotive engineers.  He has been a member of PIUG since 2014 and presented at a past PIUG Biotech meeting.

Penelope Peng
Principal Engineer & Data Scientist

Penelope Peng is a Principal Engineer and Data Science Lead at Clarivate Analytics.  She has 17 years of experience as a technologist building IP products, including Derwent Innovation, Derwent World Patents Index, and Delphion.  In addition to technical expertise, she has gained patent domain expertise from processing and analyzing patent information from 100 patent authorities and attending many years of training courses and conferences held at patent offices.  Since 2015, she has lead a team of experienced Data Scientists and Engineers who have developed such features as Derived Legal Status, Optimized Assignee, and Predictive Analytics models.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.


Raphael Ryger
Principal Software Engineer & Inventor Technology
Clarivate Analytics


Raphael Ryger was the principal architect for Micropatent's PatentWeb, launched in 1995, and has continued in related roles, with many of the same colleagues, through several corporate changes, now serving as chief engineer for the patent search system behind Clarivate's Derwent Innovation.  In 2014 he introduced a distinctive approach to semantic search for patents, available within Innovation as "Smart Search". Enhancements to this approach are his current main focus.

Spend some time with your peers whilst taking in a baseball game as our guest. The Washington Nationals are taking on the Philadelphia Phillies at Nationals Park Saturday May 5.

We will provide transport from the Westin Alexandria leaving at 3:15pm.
Game time is 4:05pm.
